Melbourne, 10th May, 2010 - On Friday evening The Langham, Melbourne was awarded Environmental Best Practice Hotel of the Year and Executive Chef, Anthony Ross was named Best Food and Beverage Service Employee of the Year at the Australian Hotels Association (Victoria) Awards for Excellence. The 2010 Victorian awards recognised the outstanding performances by metropolitan and regional Victorian hotels.

The Environmental Best Practice Hotel of the Year Award acknowledges The Langham, Melbourne’s implementation of policies that support environmental best practice, its use of energy saving devices with regard to water and the quality of its in-house recycling program. It also acknowledges the contributions made by the hotel’s ‘Green Team Committee’, who effectively mobilise internal initiatives, programs, plans and polices into the standard operating procedures of the hotel.

In accordance with the growing impetus on reducing green house gas emissions and employing environmentally friendly systems, policies and habits, The Langham, Melbourne officially implemented its own environmental initiative, taking numerous steps to ensure the property continues to play its part in the improvement of global environmental health.

The Best Food and Beverage Service Employee of the Year award is a deserving acknowledgement for Anthony Ross, Executive Chef and The Langham, Melbourne. Dedicated to the innovation and development of the hotel’s culinary offerings and deeply involved in the planning and introduction of both the acclaimed Melba restaurant and ARIA Bar & Lounge, Anthony has also played a significant role in the immensely popular Langham Melbourne MasterClass, which attracts an enviable lineup of renowned international chefs. In 2009 the hotel introduced a series of Anthony Ross Cooking Classes, which enjoy a following and book out well in advance.

These awards are a testament to both The Langham Hotels International Environmental Project which launched on 5th May 2008 and The Langham, Melbourne’s consistent pursuit of providing guests with a most elegant experience through 5-star service, unique culinary offerings and luxurious detail.

The Langham Melbourne’s Managing Director, Ben Sington, is thrilled to have the hotel’s ongoing environmental and sustainability efforts along with the hotel’s staff and service recognised as leaders in the industry.
