MELBOURNE, 17 MAY 2013 - The Langham, Melbourne is calling out to all owners of pink bikes and cars to come by the hotel’s driveway on Friday 7 June between 2pm – 3pm for the hotel’s very first Afternoon Tea drive through. Each year, Langham properties worldwide celebrate the birthday of their flagship property – The Langham, London – in June, and in keeping with a 148 year old tradition, offer Afternoon Tea on that one special day for the 1865 price of approximately 20 Australian cents. To welcome The Langham, Melbourne’s new pink London cab and pink bikes, and to celebrate its signature shade (pink), the hotel will be offering Afternoon Tea at the price of 20 cents to the first 100 owners of pink cars and pink bikes to pass through the driveway.
The ritual of Afternoon Tea was created in 1840 by Duchess Anna Russell, to ward off hunger pains between lunch and dinner. The Duchess shared the experience with her close circle of friends and the timeless tradition of Afternoon Tea was born when they in turn started to host Afternoon Tea events. The Langham, London’s Palm Court is renowned as the place where the tradition of Afternoon Tea in an exclusive setting was born over 140 years ago – an indulgence that continues to live on in Langham properties worldwide today.
